Just know it leans dark, the romance smolders, and the ending earns the sequel.

The narration: a voice built for the dark

Amanda Leigh Cobb narrates, and she is a huge part of why this one worked so well for me. Her Oraya is guarded and dry and quietly furious, exactly the prickly heroine the story needs, and she shifts into the male vampire voices without ever tipping into caricature. Across the full 15 hours and 4 minutes she keeps the tension coiled through the fight scenes and lets the slow-burn moments actually breathe. If you are new to Cobb, this is a great introduction to why listeners seek her out.

Is it worth your credit?

For me, yes, comfortably. At just over fifteen hours you are getting a full, meaty listen, and it is the sort of propulsive story that makes a credit feel well spent rather than a gamble. If you love morally gray vampires, tournament stakes, and a romance that takes its sweet, tortured time, this is an easy recommend.
